OOC PLOTTING: IT'S SUMMER! I'VE GOT MY HAT ON BACKWARDS AND IT'S TIME TO FUCKIN PARTY

SETTING UPDATES

Welcome to Summerrrrrr (more) (hotter)! The Grove largely continues to be “business as usual” after returning from Night Vale. It seems that those of you who were stuck there all month had a much more atypical month than those within the Grove overall.
Flowers continue to bloom, animals flood the forest, the fog wall remains unforgiving and impenetrable… while the fog wall largely prevents creatures from getting in, the occasional smart biblically-accurate deer will accidentally wander onto the true paths and stumble into the Grove. Unfortunately, they can’t figure out how to leave without assistance from those with Golden Glasses. You could also just eat them if you’re hungry, I guess.
The Sea Monkeys on the beach have realised the blessing of society and free-choice, and have begun to stir in their tidepool on the beach. Notably, they cry out to anyone with a Bone Ring that they miss “their God” and that they “wish to see the benevolent deity of blue” and similar such things. They are talking about Mizuki, because Mizuki gave them meaning last summer. Thanks little guy. Aside from that, the other beach creatures are highly active; the mobster lobsters and coconut crabs have moved their turf war down the beach a bit, the fruit sharks happily swim through the air in abundance. Careful eyes may see baby fruit sharks following after their mothers.
The mushrooms that transformed you into monsters will disappear by the end of the month, and with it your transformations will also go (and be just as painful as the first time they happened). Thank you for playing in Wolfie’s Monster Mash!
Amity is bringing us this event and post this time, everyone thank Amity for their hard work on this event! It should hopefully be more lowkey to round out summer; after summer we’re headed into Horror Times, in case you guys forgot we are a Horror Game. :)

PLOT UPDATES

This month will start you off at the Sunset Bay Hotel, a seaside resort that happens to be staffed by man-eating Sirens.
- People that get grabbed to go here will not be able to head back to the regular Grove for about a week or two. We want to mention that this is completely opt-out-able despite the event post itself being vague about it, if you’re not interested in this aspect.
- In my heart the male sirens look like the boy band from KPOP DEMON HUNTERS.
Waking up will find characters in a single room with Rattan furnishings, overlooking a beach stained by a burning red sky. The oppressive heat and burning colors will not go away.
Though the Sirens do their jobs very well, they will also try to charm and eat you. They will not stop. Killing one will send the rest into a frenzy against the perpetrator until the next day.
Amenities are still provided and available, featuring access to a pool, the beach itself, a gym and various eateries. But if you choose to go swimming you will have to deal with more sirens.
However, at some point in your forced stay, the staff will begin kidnapping a handful of guests a day- and at night the building across the hotel will become a theater where the victims must put on a play that is, in essence, a parody of their own life. This can be as cruel or as comedic as players desire, but the audience cannot interrupt (or leave their seat) until after the play begins, and the ‘actors’ cannot flee the stage until at least halfway through.
Players can choose to have them forced to perform the whole thing, if so desired.
The ‘actors’ will shuffle regularly, so that everyone will get a turn. … Yayyyy…
Süri and Zonari are also in the audience, in a box seat above everyone else- they’re very much protected from any potential attack, and will laugh at your efforts. And your plays. They’re dicks.
Eventually, Süri will get bored and drop you all off at the beach again, letting you do what you want.

Character: Ain
Canon: Elsword
CR: Ain is an angel and was previously trying to hide it... He's no longer trying to hide it like he does in canon because there's No Point to doing that. Anyway, largely his goal back home was to stop the world from ending (done) and defeat the evil cult that wants to end the world (in progress), and also he's made of God Rock Substance (the El) which in this game's terms basically means he's made of nuclear energy I guess. I don't know how to explain Elsword to people anymore, I've been here 15 years—

Ain is a healer, he's sweet but can be passive-aggressive and generally loves to fuck with people, he has a difficult time grasping emotions often, he has an anxiety disorder, and his definition of friendship is incredibly nebulous. Some of you have already gotten this but Ain very rarely registers negative CR, you can yell at him all you want but he'll sit there like :D we're friends! because his canon group of idiots are always arguing about something and this is just friendship to him. He... has only been around humans for 5 years he doesn't get it, okay.

for Stix: Ain runs the tailor shop and lives in the bunny bakery with Ezell. He likes gardening but he doesn't help maintain any greenhouses, he's just having fun. Despite being a healer he doesn't work in the clinic much anymore, he's largely focused on other things. You can come to him for healing still but he won't really be in there much.

Ain is still in his yandere arc that's the only update. Also Ezell proposed to him, but he's still biting.

Plans: my plans are everything-

Monsters wise Ain will continue to be a critter. This month was going to be the siren month coincidentally so lol lmao. He has a land form but I haven't drawn it. Dwbi.

Event wise: Ain will be salty and mad that he has to do Yet Another One of these stupid play things, fun facts he has done this exact thing before and he was made to be silent the entire time for like 2 hours of stageplay. I could make that joke here again but I won't. Realistically I think most of the heavy lifting will be done by the NPC sirens who are forced to act because Ain really doesn't talk much in early story. Maybe I'll go thru some specific part idk.

He's been here OVER A YEAR! WITHOUT YOU!!! the timeline didn't apply to you but it sure does apply to him—

Character: Thorns/Isidro
Canon: Arknights

CR: Thorns is a lot of things. In short: Pharmacologist, toxicologist, very smart but tends to unintentionally cause explosions whenever he's working, not very well put together (generally his shirt is inside out/backwards, he's missing a shoe, pants unbuttoned, hair fucked up, might've forgotten a sock... you know, the picture of a man with severe ADHD), doesn't care for his appearance, oblivious... also has a metal arm but it's Not a prosthetic it's just alchemy components that fused with him (it's complicated). His perms post on his journal has all his powers, it's a sort of ridiculous set (I also have yet to fix that the heart/mind essence are now just called Corazonix in the localization whoops). Most importantly he knows how to sail a ship and was Very Briefly a pirate before he instead became more of a seafaring reconnaissance & supply runner for Rhodes Island. Just know that he is not above doing a crime if it means that crime winds up serving the greater good.

Very specifically he can use his cool alchemy arm for various things (outlined on his perms page in the powers section) but the most important is that he can just. find shit with it. like a compass, or a dowsing rod. Surprise it has compass abilities. if you need shit found please hit him up.

Thorns also code switches very frequently. Any Spanish (Iberian) he speaks will be translated in hover text. Sorry mobile taggers this will be super unhelpful for you.

He is also Aegirian (Sea Urchin specifically) and like Mizuki, has ties with the Church of the Deep, except unlike Mizuki he fucking hates Seaborn and is very much struggling with the fact that y'all like them. He can slightly hear the Call, which essentially means he's been corrupted enough by being fed Seaborn secretly as a youth that he's slightly turning into one and joining the hivemind, so he tends to steer clear of the river and lies low when the evolved ones are flying.

He has a friend with him too, named Nene. Nene is a type of land-faring fishlike creature known as a saltfin and responds to commands and orders like a dog.

for Stix: Thorns has taken over the lab in Gnosis' absence IT'S MY BUILDING AND I CAN RECLAIM IT IF I WANT. This also means he's living in the living space back there. He briefly borrowed the clinic to run experiments on himself re: his Corruption... this did not go well but he's essentially made a biochemical weapon (yay?) that he will totally use and I will not forget he has. His goal was to reverse engineer the Corruption into a Suri poison. He will "work on this in the background" but he will not be successful because he is a mod character.

Currently he has a stupid little puppy crush on Sidney and it's going about as well as these things normally go with Thorns, which is to say "he's been stupid about it the entire time".

Plans:

Monster wise: Still have Seaborn Thorns for the remainder of the monsterification. He will be so relieved when this shit wears off.

Events wise: If you wanted to see a dramatic reenactment of everything that happens on board his pirate ship re: his event ingame now's your chance because everything happens so much in that event and Thorns nearly dies like, 5 fucking times. Also, the fact that the sirens would be the remainder of his crew is obnoxiously funny because his crew is mostly composed of Aegir.

Anything Else: Still on the prowl for new CR. I apologise for being slow with him, he ate my brain in the first half of the month and then Flamebringer stole the rest of it.

Character: Flamebringer
Canon: Arknights

CR:
Flamebringer... sighs. Okay. Flamebringer is a Sarkaz ("demon" but that word is also a slur for them) (he will get Touchy about this) from Kazdel, which is where a lot but not all Sarkaz are from. Kazdel is a shithole of a country, like they don't even have flowers there it's real bad. Formerly, he could hear the voices of other dead Sarkaz and could feel their emotions/see their history, but that's no longer the case since he's been canon updated to Chapter 15. He's a little :| about his brain being quiet rn.

Flamebringer himself is someone who views any battle that isn't life or death as a waste of his time/abilities, and he's a "one-man army" archetype. His ultimate goal is one day to find a fight so good that he can die happy in battle, in this pseudo-suicidal way. He's not actively seeking them, but you have to be Worth Fighting in his eyes for him to raise his blade. As his name hints at, he's very proficient in fire-based magic. He's also Infected with Oripathy (stage 3 now due to Suri) (this man is dying actively, essentially at the point of no return now). For the new folks here Oripathy is basically cancer, but with rocks. Cutting yourself on the rocks on his skin will transmit the illness; he normally keeps them bandaged as much as he can, but the ones on his face are now unruly and hard to deal with without bandaging most of his head.

Kazdelian Sarkaz are the Arknights equivalent of Jewish & other Abrahamic religions, and they aren't even trying to hide this fact with FB because he wears a Star of David necklace. If you ever ask me about this factoid I will go on for 2 hours you have been warned.

As for Stix: He runs the tat/piercing shop, he lives in the bunny bakery with Ezell who is his fiancé and he will kill for, he helps out in the greenhouses... Suri took his left eye from him via Oripathy nodules growing into his optical nerve and severing it. Due to his Stage 3 Oripathy he's usually in intense amounts of daily pain, and sometimes hacks up shards of it in private. His worst nightmare is dying to this, so :')

honestly he didn't get up to much last month other than nearly died and then nearly died again, so he's just kind of chillin for now. He did have a weird nostalgia/homesick moment and he's largely trying to shake that off. Bud is not doing that well.

Plans:

Monster wise: I'm letting go of his cat ass I'm tired of him, he's going to go back to being normal a month in advance.

Event wise: Let's try not to get eaten by sirens!! That's about it; the stage play largely won't do much for him because he doesn't have *that much* to act out other than that time he survived an entire battle and his mercenary squad he was leading didn't, but because we don't know the gritty details behind it other than what he vaguely alludes to I'd rather skip making something up. Terrible I know. He's on vibes month. Silly month.

my spiel about arknights i give every month

Character: Passenger / Elliot
Canon: Arknights

CR:
Passenger is a Liberi (specifically a passenger pigeon) (which are extinct) who (checks notes)... is Columbian (American) but spent a majority of his life starting from childhood in Sargon (nebulously "every Arabic country that exists"). Part of that life was spent with his mentor Thorne NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THORNS ABOVE I KNOW THIS IS HARD, who was killed by a Lord Ameer ("Sargonian guy with a lot of political power/status"). Passenger then spent TWENTY YEARS!! TWENTY FUCKING YEARS!! on a revenge plot that involved burning the city & black market of Ibut — which he built up with his own hands — to the ground, while said Lord Ameer was trapped there. He started this revenge plot when he was a child. Also detonated an Originium bomb part in his hands which is how he got Infected with Oripathy (rock cancer). His Oripathy causes severe emotion and personality loss since it's almost directly in his brain, and despite only being Stage 1 the medical professionals on Terra really don't think he'll live that long. He's also pushing 40 though so lmao.

He has an unhealthy obsession with Sesa/they are MARRIED NOW!! yaaay, and he has a childhood version of himself living in his brain who talks to him. I simply refer to him as "Little Elliot". If you can read minds or etc you might get to hear him talking, he's a nice boy. Passenger is not.

for Stix: Passenger lives in the workshop with Sesa and owns the Magic Lamp. He is otherwise pretty quiet; technically he works on machinery and lightning-shooting devices and things like that, but since he gets unattached to his projects quickly I rarely bring this up. It's safe to assume most of the time he's putting his creative impulses into food instead, because there's simply no need for him to make 1 billion scrap projects here.

Anyway the wedding went well and Passe finally has new CR which has been nice/really re-motivating for me lmao. I thought I was losing my grip on him and no it turns out his brain was just mad that his friends left, but do not worry he has new ones.

Plans: Undecided on if I'm going to unmonster Passenger or not yet. Shrugging nebulously.

The only thing I can think of for the play is the burning of Ibut when he murdered that Lord Ameer, and there's something hilarious in the thought of telling a 20 year story in like 4 miserable fucking hours (or 8, 8 is even funnier) but I also don't TL with Passe because he's an awkward-TL-er, so if anyone wants this lmk and I'll inbox it to you, otherwise I'm going to come to Your TL Instead.
