SETTING UPDATES:

• For those that missed it or did not participate, the Attack on Suri concluded… with several little updates that will moderately shake the setting up:
  • Characters who were alive at the end of the battle know Suri’s name, which despite us using it all the time, was not actually known by anyone barring Tal’s Cookie Duo™. This includes four of the five Guardians as well. Because of this, Suri gets a power jump — but it’s up to the players if they choose to disseminate this information, or figure out a new way to be disrespectful about it.
  • The Temple is destroyed and merely a pile of rubble now.
    • Suri’s next probable location is therefore unknown.
  • While not otherwise hostile to the players at this time, Zonari will be moving out for now; dad’s calling and she has to get back to their new home. That said, she will still visit the Grove because she’s weirdly fascinated with all of you (and very fond of the Tomas chicks in the barn) under the excuse that she’s “keeping watch”.
  • A new NPC, Callisto, will be available to contact on NPC Contact. In short, she’s the merchant who originally opened the Temple doors and caused the apocalypse, and Suri has spent the last thousand years torturing and resurrecting her in an endless cycle. Mizuki rescued her as he escaped, and she currently lives in the inn and frequents Luca’s bar.
  • The NPC Elsword has left the Garden and is now Contactable as well. He lives in the therapy building with Mizuki.
• Callan, still frustrated with the winter cold, will remain in Siffrin’s fishtank.
• Player sacrifices have been acknowledged. Those of you who didn’t bother to make a sacrifice will have some effects to contend with; those of you who did are spared. Regardless, Winter and the wraiths have moved on into the forest, and springtime will be upon you soon.
• The snow, while not fully melted off, will start to do so. The ground will remain snowy, but the river will unfreeze, which allows Sinann and the baby Seaborn (who have grown a lot since they were first introduced) to float up to the surface again and say hi. Yet, the Seaborn population in the river is still much thinner than it was before.

PLOT UPDATES:

• February’s log is a player plot written entirely by Rubie. Questions about event mechanics therefore should be directed to Rubie through official channels, meaning: Please ask these in a public location such as the Discord Q&A or the FAQ here or on the main post so that they’re available to anyone who needs to see them. The mods would advise sending Rubie a ping if you use Discord.
• The rest of the plotting notes in this section are written by Rubie, so without further ado: < rubiezone >
• Several months ago, Mizuki introduced some of his God’s flesh to the Grove. It had been under Pure Vanilla’s watch… but due to some of his unforeseen absences, pieces have escaped and grown.
• It now occupies a part of the forest most would do well to avoid – the people trees. Characters this month will notice that massive tree that now stands stories tall above everything else in that part of the forest.
• The Nethersea brand is back! Now worse than ever! As a refresher (or introduction to our newer folk), the brand is a web-like, blue, almost flesh-like mass that will continuously grow and cover whatever it can. Touching it gives a numbing sensation that will eventually cause your nervous system to shut down. It’s not instantaneous, but you don’t have long! After some time, you’ll regain feeling again, but if you don’t leave the brand in that time, it’ll happen all over again.
• What does all this mean for you? Well, for starters, leaving the brand unchecked will cause it to grow over the Grove. In the past, it stayed contained, but considering it’s stemming from this massive tree – the Caerula Arbor – this time, it will become a problem. And secondly… anyone trapped within the brand, or stuck in the “roots” of the Arbor will have a vague “assimilation” with it. You won’t become Seaborn or anything like that, don’t worry.
• “What does that mean?!” Glad you asked! It means that Rubie has the opportunity to give you all a memory share event! The Arbor’s whole thing is about grief, so likely memories will align with that, but I’m not about to police what fun you want to have. Go nuts.
• Because the Arbor is assimilating with the people trees as well – characters from everyone’s past lives – y’all will be able to explore past life memories, too! Yaaaay!!! ✨ Again, I’m not about to police any of y’all for this. Please have fun, do what you want, plot away, I’m here for it.
• On top of this, I will also be hosting a “stop the Arbor from branding the Grove” that doubles as a Mizuki rescue mission! This will have sign-ups for that below, as this is going to be a quick-paced thread that centers on DnD-esque puzzle-solving and… depending on how y’all handle it, a fight scene?! Who knows. I don’t. I’ve got lots of endings planned, though. 🙂

OOC UPDATES:

• For those who were wondering about the monster transformation event we promised and didn’t bring up for another few months (sorry) — we now have officially scheduled it for May. We know art/designs/deep thoughts are important to players for such events, so here is a rough outline of the actual mechanics:
  • Multiple transformations will be allowed per month (May will be primarily monster focused; June & July will still have characters transformed if they wish to be, but will have other plot focuses). You can also just stick to one if it please ye. At any point, the transformation can be ended early via the same mechanic that transforms players in the first place — or avoided entirely for the uninterested.
  • Dragon blessings do not have to show up on your person if you do not want them to (i.e. if it interferes with your idea) — Corruption however will be present. You will not lose the effects from either of these things while Creatured.
  • Any monster is viable, and there is no bestiary provided — however, we ask that you keep in mind our existing size constraints, do not break our game, & do not use overly-mechanical designs as it doesn’t fit our setting. No full robots or TV heads. Steampunk & partial robotic designs, as long as they are mostly flesh, are OK.

Canon: The World Ends With You

CR: Joshua: bitch version! You all know and love him. Death took away his invisibility though so now he's forced to undergo the mortifying ordeal of being known perceived. He can still peek into your mind though, and he will never stop being a little bit of a gremlin.
Plans: Joshua is going to be sick for the first week of the month and he is not going to be happy about it. He is going to hide away in his room and occasionally teleport out to the kitchen to make tea. He may have a thick comforter draped over his head and clutched around him like he's a little old Russian grandma and he will be cranky. Mortal bodies suck and he hates everything. Unfortunately he is going to look at the monthly event and go "Wow, that looks awful. Sucks to be you. Not my problem." so he will be holing up in the inn.

Canon: Honkai Star Rail

CR: Jiaoqiu is everyone's favorite fox uncle! He's a doctor specializing in food as medicine (though he can do medicines and surgery too, he's really good at surgery). Little bit of a teasing and mischievous type, though not as bad as Joshua (bitch), and he will make sure that you are eating properly.
Plans: Jiaoqiu will also be sick at the beginning of the month, because he was busy in the inn doing doctorly things and was not coerced by the call for a sacrifice. Whoops. After that, his involvement in the event will likely be attempting to treat any wounds that come from it. But past life memories are a huge draw so I miiiight have him go out trying to get a sample and get caught in it. Oopsie!

Character: Joshua Rosfield
Canon: Final Fantasy XVI

CR: Joshua is a kind-hearted and polite young man with a soft spot for his brother and a strong sense of sass. He's one of those badass bookworm types. He's also the Dominant of the Phoenix, meaning he can use fire and healing magic as well as halfway and completely shift forms into the Phoenix. Unfortunately, the more he uses magic that draws heavily on him, the more it progresses the Curse that is petrifying his insides, so. Fun!
Plans: Joshua is going on the Mizuki rescue mission, because he can't not do it. He is also in the process of trying to cleanse the corruption that he received from Suri controlling his body! Since he's so new here, I'd like to continue developing his CR with others, too.

Canon: Elsword (critically irrelevant MMO)

Ain is an angel who doesn't look like one unless he's in that specific form, but largely most people here either know or have figured it out. He's no longer trying to hide it like he does in canon because there's No Point to doing that, so hi if I get castmates in the future ig he's just out here like this. Anyway, largely his goal back home was to stop the world from ending (done) and defeat the evil cult that wants to end the world (in progress), and also he's made of God Rock Substance (the El) which in this game's terms basically means he's made of nuclear energy I guess. I don't know how to explain Elsword to people anymore, I've been here 15 years—

Ain is a healer, he's sweet but can be passive-aggressive and generally loves to fuck with people, he has a difficult time grasping emotions often, he has an anxiety disorder, and his definition of friendship is incredibly nebulous. Some of you have already gotten this but Ain very rarely registers negative CR, you can yell at him all you want but he'll sit there like :D we're friends! because his canon group of idiots are always arguing about something and this is just friendship to him. He... has only been around humans for 5 years he doesn't get it, okay.

Currently for Stix: He part-time works at the clinic with the other clinic lurkers, but most of the time he can be found at the tailor shop which he runs with Isa. He lives at the bunny bakery with Ezell & FB too, but his upgraded inn room is still used sometimes for more storage for his plants + his animals use it as their own room sometimes. He has a lot of animals. He has dragon blessings that I log here, and has acquired a sleek new scar from Suri. He's not happy about it, he thinks it's ugly, so he's going to keep it covered at all times. It's on his torso, so easy to cover until summer comes and he resorts to high-waisted pants with his crop tops lmao.

Ain also died last month and his consequence was that Suri took one of his memories, which is the one where he woke up from his coma that his friend Add accidentally put him in. Ain thinks he basically died instead and has spent the time following the group around as a lightball (so that I don't have to retcon out his knowledge of other events in canon). Since he thinks he's dead back home, it has made him cagey about going back to Elrios, and currently he's planning to head home with Ezell when the time comes and try to drag everyone else with them. Because Terra is soooo much better than here, obviously (it's not).

🌻 In general I'd like to cover his moving into the Grove and being heavily An Evangelist Asshole, his mellowing out/couch surfing phase and probably into his "coming out" phase, and his eventual death/sacrifice (flutters my eyelashes at Tal if he'd like to join in teehee heehee) -- keep in mind a lot of these will have some kind of abusive family triggers on it bc I made his mom suck lmao.
🌻 I'd like to get more involved with other people's plotlines too, Weasel and I had Liv/Ain being kind of a thing so flutters at Weasel, but - I would like more than this !! And I am bad at plotting!! Please invite Ain to your bday parties he sings songs real good.

🌻For non past life things I'm down to show people basically any part of Elsword canon if they're interested. I don't expect folks to say yes to this because GESTURES to this canon. But if y'all wanna see Ain when he's a gremlin goblin and crashes an airship or other "early Ain" things where he's just a complete dick lmk!
🌻 His memories were altered by Suri, so past the Rigomor Arc, he thinks he's "dead" (in lightball form, still following the party) and thus his interactions with the rest of his group will be stunted and feel kind of feverdreamish. His real memories know that he was alive for these moments, but his death consequence brain convinced him that he wasn't despite only one memory (being restored from his coma after Add nearly killed him) being altered/lost. It's going to feel trippy while his brain fights himself.

Character: Flamebringer

Canon: Arknights

CR: Flamebringer... sighs. Okay. Flamebringer is a Sarkaz ("demon" but that word is also a slur for them) (he will get Touchy about this) from Kazdel, which is where a lot but not all Sarkaz are from. Kazdel is a shithole of a country, like they don't even have flowers there it's real bad. Currently but not in the future whenever I canon update him, he hears the voices of other dead Sarkaz and can feel their emotions/see their history, he did not consent to this so his brain is always "full". People who can read minds/sense spirits can probably also hear them, they're called the myriad souls and they suck a little. Flamebringer himself is someone who views any battle that isn't life or death as a waste of his time/abilities, and he's a "one-man army" archetype. His ultimate goal is one day to find a fight so good that he can die happy in battle, in this pseudo-suicidal way. He's not actively seeking them, but you have to be Worth Fighting in his eyes for him to raise his blade. As his name hints at, he's very proficient in fire-based magic. He's also Infected with Oripathy (stage 3 now due to Suri) (this man is dying actively, essentially at the point of no return now). For the new folks here Oripathy is basically cancer, but with rocks. Cutting yourself on the rocks on his skin will transmit the illness; he normally keeps them bandaged as much as he can, but the ones on his face are now unruly and hard to deal with without bandaging most of his head.

Kazdelian Sarkaz are the Arknights equivalent of Jewish & other Abrahamic religions, and they aren't even trying to hide this fact with FB because he wears a Star of David necklace. If you ever ask me about this factoid I will go on for 2 hours you have been warned.

As for Stix: He runs the tat/piercing shop, he lives in the bunny bakery with Ezell who is his FIANCÉ NOW!!! and he will kill for, he helps out in the greenhouses... Suri took his left eye from him via Oripathy nodules growing into his optical nerve and severing it. Ezell replaced it with a prosthetic. Due to his Stage 3 Oripathy he's usually in intense amounts of daily pain, and sometimes hacks up shards of it in private. His worst nightmare is dying to this, so :')

Plans:
I wish I had something from AK canon to share with the class but I don't unless anyone really wants to meet his 700 daughters, lmk! Otherwise!

Character: Gnosis Edelweiss-Silverash

Canon: Arknights

CR: Gnosis is a Liberi (bird) (specifically a black-necked crane) who does A Lot Of Science, like Technology Is All He Cares About Sometimes, mainly preferring to stay indoors and be introverted and keep to himself so he can work. He is Very Autistic and has a mansplaining problem. He and Enciodes are married. Back on Terra, their homeworld, they run Karlan Trade, which is a trading company stationed in Kjerag, and Gnosis is also the speaker of Kjerag's parliament. Very important-seeming for a guy that wants to sit in a chair and rot with his science all day.

For Stix: He sticks to the lab doing research, and he also lives in a small living space off to the side of it. Between him and Enciodes they have Unci and Tenzin, respectively a baby snow leopard and a hunting hawk, but Gnosis also has two weird fish in his lab that he takes care of — one of them a betta fish that's Just an eye with fins from the Alpha Mart event, and the other a Peeper from Subnautica from that event. He loves his freak-ass fish. He also went through an alcoholism stint but he's largely trying to quit now, do not make him relapse we're manifesting good health for him.

Recently his ass died. He was going to die to Suri but Enciodes got there first. Gnosis also got a memory change, so whereas canon says that he and Enciodes as kids promised to meet up in Victoria after the Edelweisses were exiled from Kjerag (and that did come true), current Gnosis believes that that promise was never made and that he'd never see Enciodes again, until he did because Enciodes still wound up meeting up with him when they were teenagers. Naturally this has the consequence of making him much more paranoid and clingy with Enciodes in particular, because in his eyes he "didn't ever know Enciodes was coming for him". Oops.

Plans: Gnosis will be going to save Mizuki who is him friend, obviously. He also has vested interest in Seaborn shenanigans since he's learned a LOT about them here.
Past-Life Memshare:

Character: Elliot "Passenger" Glover

Canon: Arknights, what else do I play from these days y'all

CR: Passenger is a Liberi (specifically a passenger pigeon) (which are extinct) who (checks notes)... is Columbian (American) but spent a majority of his life starting from childhood in Sargon (nebulously "every Arabic country that exists"). Part of that life was spent with his mentor Thorne, who was killed by a Lord Ameer ("Sargonian guy with a lot of political power/status"). Passenger then spent TWENTY YEARS!! TWENTY FUCKING YEARS!! on a revenge plot that involved burning the city & black market of Ibut — which he built up with his own hands — to the ground, while said Lord Ameer was trapped there. He started this revenge plot when he was a child. Also detonated an Originium bomb part in his hands which is how he got Infected with Oripathy (rock cancer). His Oripathy causes severe emotion and personality loss since it's almost directly in his brain, and despite only being Stage 1 the medical professionals on Terra really don't think he'll live that long. He's also pushing 40 though so lmao.

He has an unhealthy obsession with Sesa/they are engaged yaaay, and he has a childhood version of himself living in his brain who talks to him. I simply refer to him as "Little Elliot". If you can read minds or etc you might get to hear him talking, he's a nice boy. Passenger is not.

These days Passenger lives in the workshop with Sesa and owns the Magic Lamp. He is otherwise pretty quiet; technically he works on machinery and lightning-shooting devices and things like that, but since he gets unattached to his projects quickly (unlike Gnosis) I rarely bring this up. It's safe to assume most of the time he's putting his creative impulses into food instead, because there's simply no need for him to make 1 billion scrap projects here. He died in October and has been nebulously Around but not entirely social since then, mainly sticking to his usual haunts. I'd love to claim he's been avoiding the Triguns since but he doesn't have an avoidant personality type so he's still here like hi buy my coffee that I grow thanks.

Plans: I have very minimal concrete plans for him bc lbr I never do, he just gets up to things on his own, but memshare-wise...

Character: Affogato Cookie
Canon: Cookie Run: Kingdom

CR: Affogato is a former Cookie who was once upon a time Dark Cacao Cookie's Royal Advisor. He clawed, scraped, and poisoned potioned his way to get to that position. And though he was very willing to feed into Cacao's paranoia and control via puppeting him, as well as let outer tribes starve (fuck you Coffee Village), he was actually really decent at his job. His job was to run the day to day of the Citadel and given what he had to work with, he did well enough! Plus he showed actual care for a) his disciples and b) the workers, asking Cacao to be easier on them.

However, when offered More Power he gladly took it and betrayed Cacao for the Crown, then was forced to flee.

Here in Stix: He's made up with Cacao and they've started a tentative trial relationship. He's taken over as Mizuki's Commander but uhm, has also grown feelings for the jellyfish which is very annoying cause he becomes very possessive and he does not like sharing but he WILL he GUESSES with Elsword but also he's going to kiss Mizuki's face really hard. With Fel gone he's taken over the Bath House as well, and is working to turn it into more of a parlor for relaxation. Massage, acupuncture, soaking. Whatever your needs. Plus he will do your makeup and hair for you, geezus please let him.

He's TRYING to be on his best behavior but it's so hard to be good when you still want Power and the Thing In The Forest Offers It. He's somewhat mollified by joining Cacao's Dragon Egg Helper Party and, in return, being given a boon. He now has better vision and better balance, which he will be using to his advantage for things. It came with a tail so. Watch Out He Will Flirt With It.

Plans: He's been experimenting with the flora and fauna of this world in making incense and tinctures. He would rather like to start trying them on people, but it's really hard to get someone to just down a random ass concoction without questions. He tried to be himself and trick Winter into going away with a Wish and it kinda worked but also Winter was like boy.

CR: Odile is a grumpy (caring) old (40-something) lady from Ka Bue (Japan) with a passion for learning. She's also a very talented Crafter (magic user) who helped save Vaugarde (France) and possibly also the world? Since it was kind of breaking by the end of all that.
Plans: She plans to discuss some basic battle tactics with the town as a whole for the next time there's a big group fight (so almost immediately, neat). If anyone has interesting powers, especially lacks experience, etc. she might talk to them one-on-one to make more detailed plans, so lemme know if you're interested in that.

I'm open to memshare stuff or not, depending if anyone has any ideas.

CR: Sesa's the Grove's local Chuuni and weapon's smith, who has his own workshop that he both lives and works out of with his fiance, Passenger. Sesa kindof got hit with a bat a the month prior because said fiance fucking died and he was angy about it, and while he's still not Fully Over It, he's doing a lot better. Sesa is a puppydog of a person but he holds one hell of a grudge when it comes to people he cares about, even if he doesn't necessarily fully realize it. So, yaknow, something to bring up during therapy. He's really happy about all the new "Vouivre" in the Grove, which is being balanced out by how fucking cold it is. He HATES the cold and this cold is going to make him want to just live under his kotatsu forever thanks.

Physically Sesa is still a Vouivre with his scales, horns, and tail. He didn't get any dragon boons bc he doesn't feel like he needs any, though he uh...he officially has Oripathy now, throws confetti! He got it while carrying Passenger's dying body outside of the Grove so it wouldn't explode and leak Oripathy everywhere. He's got some surface level scarring on his body from Suri quest but he came out relatively unscathed but just know I am holding the steel chair. He hasn't been sent to the garden yet okay IM HOLDING THE CHAIR

He has also been thinking ahead about ~marriage plans~, especially since Passenger died since he's afraid that if he keeps waiting he'll die for real and then he'll be a WIDOW-

Update to this I think Elliot and Sesa should have an in-Grove wedding sometime soon. I think that would be cute and gay of them.

He's going to be freaking the fuck out? About the everything that is happening? Where is Mizuki? Why is there Nethersea Brand everywhere now? AAA??? HE DOESN'T WANT TO HAVE TO ADMIT THORNS WAS RIGHT-

So yeah obviously he will be very involved in that half of the plot, but as far as memshare goes he has a couple fun ones to choose from with the caveat that you're okay with me headcanon making up some stuff because Sesa unfortunately is...not Hypergryph's favorite, so his history is mostly unknown. Partly by design, partly bc they hate me ANYWAY

Canon Memories:
1) Sesa being a witness to the "accidental lab arson incident" that took his brother's life. He has not told...really ANYONE much about this, especially since there's a very strong implication/common theory that Sesa is not actually who he says he is, and he assumed his brother's identity when he died in an effort to stay low because oops as it turns out maybe HE was the one that needed to die in that "accident"!! It's all very shady and weird and the memory will be equally weird and I think that'd be fun to play with
2) Memories of Sargon...there's not much else honestly that isn't strictly involved with Passenger, though if you want to meet Heavyrain she was also there

Past-Life Memories:
1) Sesa grew up in the Grove so you can run into him as an child running around playing with sticks and eating dirt if you want
2) He was also a carpenter and started his apprenticeship with his dad at 15, so any point in his life after that he would have been helping build all of the structures in the Grove if that's something anyone would like to play with! Wanna say he built your house? Go for it he's good for it

I don't actually have a whole lot of concrete other memories from his Grove life so if anyone wants to plot things lmk!!
