OOC PLOTTING: A CREEPING FURY SETTING IN

SETTING UPDATES

Zahliyaquest is almost complete. While we don’t have a full breadth of updates for you now because it’s still in the final phase, we’re noting this here for everyone not involved. There will be a summary posted on OOC plotting after it officially concludes, please look forward to it.
The rains have stopped and the plants have returned back to normal. No harm was done to them during their growing-shrinking phase; they’re just as healthy as they originally were.
Autumn is rolling in! That means the leaves are starting to turn yellow and orange and will soon start falling. If you jump into any piles, mind the two-headed mice that live under them.
Nene has a cute cottage in North Aldric’s Grove now, near the pathway into it and close to the Archives/library.

PLOT UPDATES

Characters will wake up one day- or enter the Grove entirely- to Ydalir getting up to some antics! Specifically, she is running around with a cute poofy witch hat atop her head, and flowy wraps and robes, and handing out enchanted items.
These items will include a wide range of options from a wand that summons a (d20) amount of pigeons, to a goldfish that follows you in a bubble to far more! Players are free to come up with their own enchanted items or roll in the Pain-free gacha (as opposed to the latter event’s very painful gacha) for a mod-generated one.
These items will last for the month. Some may have special rules attached, i.e. the pigeon wand may not summon more than the rolled number of pigeons per day. It also may not summon Passenger. Any extraneous rules will be given upon acquisition; if you make up your own, a good rule of thumb is to not make up items that will give you immortality/a way around plot mechanics easily, and to keep it on the side of silly.
Of course, despite Ydalir’s best efforts, something has set the Black Sun off and he has another game for everyone. One that he’ll be taking much more seriously this time.
This portion of the event will consist of trying to hide from and escape three different entities hunting you down in the forest.
- A very large lichen-covered dragon with many, many legs. (14 or higher)
- A rock-like bear. (12 or higher)
- A giant, mossy frog. (10 or higher)
… and a multitude of small fairies wearing masks with only a single eye painted on. (flip a coin to evade being seen)
To avoid capture, one must roll a die and reach a certain number depending on your encounter(s)- freedom means you can (but are not obliged to) encounter another one of the seekers, up until you are finally caught. Their designated safe rolls are also listed above.
- If you very specifically want your character to be caught by, say, the moss frog — you don’t need to fudge rolls, you can just do it. The rolls exist to give you guys options in case you’re unsure what you want.
Unlike the other three, the fairies are not able to capture you- but they CAN rat you out and sound an alarm to draw one of them to you for capture. However, the fairies can also be bribed with food (honey, flowers, small animals) or sufficiently shiny things. If you wish to bribe a fairy into being your friend, let the mods know! Though… who’s to say how long this will actually last.
Upon capture, player characters will be brought to an enormous tree that seems to be withering. As more players are hooked into the tree, it will begin to drain their life force to reinvigorate itself. The goal of the game is to have at least 10 people free at the end of the game, with victory granting a small boon: every participant will be given a free, small, nonmagical item from home, dropped off via biblically accurate deer courier. If you want to try to free someone from the tree, hash it out with the player in question. If you're unsure or want some randomness to it, hit up a mod! We’ll work with you for a daring rescue. … Or a failed rescue. Depends on the dice.
As a warning, encountering the seekers will include potential mauling, other injuries, and being carried in things’ mouths (Very Gross). Death is only a risk with express player permission, and post-game revival will consist of two things: The first being plantlike scars over the areas where wounds were inflicted — these can either be permanent or impermanent, depending on player, but they will last for at least 24 hours either way. They are non-corrupting and simply meant to scare you. The other is that everyone who dies will be afflicted with 24-hour long total amnesia.
- Remember that deaths caused by a Large Game Event™ do not result in trips to the Garden.
… But, he has always rewarded your survival, and he will continue to do so. As you recover from the lingering effects of Hide and Seek, the entire river will come to a pleasant glow. Investigations will reveal… blinding light that is less pleasant up close!
The river water has always been oddly crisp and clear, but somehow it seems even more so now. Even the most unknowing of people can also tell there is a much wider variety of plant life growing in and around the river, alongside an equally wider variety of animal life.
The lining of the river is also graced with more blessings from the guardians! Alongside the apple tree from Sinann for its initial rescuing and Moder’s blackberry bushes, you can now find a peach tree and an orange tree…

… There sure are a lot of small ducks around now, too…
Characters can now unearth more things from their medallion/shell/scale/bone scavenging as well- from the depths of the river and it’s banks, you may now uncover jewelry or old wood or stone toys from a civilization long since passed, or other small items!
And perhaps most importantly, with the river’s growth, Sinnan will undergo some changes itself! It will become much larger (though not quite its true size) — about four feet long now. It will also be able to speak to you guys, without you guys needing a bone ring, hooray! In light of this, it will be bumped up to the Contactable section of NPC contact (along with Callan, because Wolfie forgot to do that last month, rip).

OOC UPDATES:

Wolfie mentioned this in the Discord, but so that it’s on record in a more accessible place: The map is still not updated and I (hi, this is Wolfie) am very sorry about this. The TL;DR is that the program that is used for it is no longer shutting down (yay!) but without Patreon access, the program automatically removes custom-uploaded assets (which the Sticks map has tons of) once the map is loaded. My financial situation is a lot better than it was in summer when the shitstorm of computer/medical bills occurred and this issue will be solved, do not give me money, but unfortunately the OMM team is now having issues syncing up Patreon accounts with client logins. Yes it’s bad, yes I hate the dev team. It will be corrected hopefully this month since I can both afford their Patreon tier and they maybe, probably, will correct their weird issues.
The locations page will continue to be updated in the meantime.
This month and October are double-TDM months because we historically do not run them in Nov-Dec due to the holiday season. TDMs will resume in January!

Character: Pure Vanilla
Status: Pure Vanilla is a very Tired Minotaur Peepaw who spent the entirety of last month running for his life through the forest, being one of the training toys for the above monsters. He's tired, he's dirty, he's paranoid. He just wants to rest. He will not be getting rest. Naughty Peepaws got to be Punished for their crimes. He knows what he did. Suri won't let him forget it.

Seeking: Just coming off of Hiatus, I'm up for whatever! For the first part of this month he's just going to relax and stare at his plants and maybe redact his spouses. Then he's gonna fucking lose his mind when Suri is like HEY I BROUGHT BACK YOUR FRIENDS and hole himself up or something.

Not Seeking: Shrugs??

Anything Else: He's been corrupted saving Affogato's life in the Forest, so those black God scars around his neck where Suri clawed him are now sprouting a lovely collar of daffodils. Very pretty. Very much Suri's flower. Get fucked Peepaw lol.

Status: Ain has been rapidly boomeranging between "fine" and "not fine", mostly due to the anxiety rocks he had. Now that those are gone he realises he is a) no longer dying of the flu and b) really really overdramatic. He will feel briefly bad about being annoying before he wholesale moves on and it's back to business as usual. I will give him a quirky magic item to play with but I haven't come up with something yet. Anyway he also acquired two (2) boyfriends and he will take more, I'm not convinced he'll ever stop. I update his crushes on his CR chart lmao.

Anyway as for this event! He's going to die horribly yaaaay :) I have to get it out of my system, so I'm killing him — and due to him being made of just raw energy and not really truly having a body, death is going to decorporialize him into a little light ball. I think a lot of people are already ICly familiar with lightball Ain, you can see him in that form via golden glasses or if he's told you about it (there's a couple people who know thru this), but feel free to recognize him in that form in general. He will be plonking around after the game trying to restore his form mostly on instinct, since he'll have amnesia. This usually involves being near someone with El Energy (which at this time is just Mizuki and Vash) and passively healing that way, but anyone who wants to help him otherwise can instead provide some type of magic to him and he should pop back into existence.

You can also trap him in a lantern and use him as a furious little light if you want. This is a fast track to demolishing any positive CR with him forever so think carefully—

Status: Like PV he's been running for his life in the forest. He's so angry. He's DIRTY, his clothes are in TATTERS, and he almost DIED because of a STUPID BLIND GOAT. He considered murder a few times. He's lamented his own idiocy for following a bLIND MAN. He is not going to be pleased when round 2 of chasy chasy catchy catchy starts. Fuck you, Suri, no wonder your followers leave you.

Seeking: Mizuki. Mostly. Cough. Sorry he's just going to wear the jellyfish like a scarf and go sit in the bath house until he's clean and relaxed. And he's going to eat like he... uh... hasn't eaten in a month cause lbr he prolly didn't get much chance between running. Also to just build his CR up again or branch out a little bit, if you can stand the bastard. He's very selfish and self-serving...

Status: Gnosis has been in bad shape for a while. He's been here over a year now, he's tired, he's become more of an alcoholic than canon actually portrays him, he's got depression. Despite this he's still trying to Care about everyone here, he's just really really down.

For hide and seek, Amity and I have been joking that Gnosis would charm the little fae by just giving them random shit from the lab and food and such, so he'll have like five of them clinging to him for half the event that he'll be feeding. Cute! Moment of reprieve for the crane!

Anyway, no more reprieve shortly after that, because Rubie is murdering his husband, so he will absolutely 1000% be worse. After he gets over the initial sadness (please someone comfort the bird) he will turn to the most unfiltered wrath you've ever seen, like he's going to go right back into his bombing and maiming and killing phase. If he starts setting the woods on fucking fire you must let him. He's too far gone and this is the man who canonically threatened to drown hundreds of people just to save one woman, so like. Yeah.

Status: Despite being one of the more feral assholes from my roster, Flamebringer has actually been pretty chill. He and Ezell are Smoochin' now after a really awkward conversation, very cute 10/10, and he mostly spent the last month gardening. @ PV he has herbs he saved for you!!

This month, he won't be tree'd, but he also won't be hiding. He will be on the front lines fighting and maiming and killing, as you do, so many things will simply be on fire. If he rescues anyone from the tree/you want to be rescued from the tree lmk because he's going to try to burn that down too. "Try" is the operative term. Anyway, he's wholly unafraid of dying. Unfortunately good battles make his day better so at least half of this will be fun to him, unless Ezell or the kids get attacked and then suddenly it won't be funny anymore and he'll become the worst version of himself.

Character: A.B.A.

Status: Girl is still hanging in there as a local feral creacher. She's gotten...better??? Not everyone is considered scary, at least, and she doesn't jump nearly as high when new people try to talk to her. She's especially fond of communicating through the notebook, since it doesn't involve terrible horrible things like interacting with people face-to-face. And sometimes people agree with her! How fun!

To no one's surprise, I want her magic item to be a key, but I have no idea what goofy effect it's going to have yet.

As for hide and seek, this is going to kind of kill her whole living outside deal, huh? Normally I'd say she'd be down to fight, but she still doesn't have a weapon yet. I'll have to figure that one out, too.

Seeking: Still working on building CR, whether it's making new connections or building on existing ones! Having someone drag her inside for safety will help a lot. Once again I apologize for how difficult she is sometimes.

Posting this to let yall know I'm going on a full hiatus for the full month of September! Work has picked up massively due to Back To School season, and it's set to get worse after Labor Day (yay). I will hopefully be more sane in October when our blackout dates end.

Due to this, Sesa and Sparkling are on auto-pilot, and Wolfwood is going to be going under for the whole month for a canon update! He will wake back up in October to everything on fire and his boyfriends either dead or missing :)

hands you a child ... Dipper got kind of fucked up by something that happened in Zahliyaquest and might come scuttling over to be like hhhhhhhheeeyy healing magic lessons lets bump that one into priorities so i never have to make the decision to mercy kill someone again.

Character: Shizuku Hinomori
Status: After coming back from a hiatus, Shizuku's going to be largely disoriented and may need help readjusting to life in the hellwoods. More importantly, Shizuku is a civilian and will absolutely be getting captured and in need of rescue!! This will be immensely upsetting. I do not want to kill off Shizuku at this time.

Other plans involve fun magic items! This will be good because I want her to have something that is a bird somehow and also I want to see if I can get the pigeon wand. She'd love it so much. Other fun things will include playing in the river, harvesting fruits and berries and making treats. Heimr's shop has access to what she knows as Japanese ingredients because of the strong immigration presence in former Grove residents, so she's very excited.

Another plan is Idol House!! (Jami, Rubie, she will approach the others about this later.) She'll also be doing little performances out and about from now on, and much like her mother she may teach koto and piano to those interested!

She will continue her work on oripathy research and will also be supporting Vanilla's Sunyonce. Status: I'll be honest, this is going to be Felicity's last month in the game. Wolfie and I have a gentle way out for her, which will be actualized within the month and then she'll be bowing out. The goal is to drop her while confirming to her friends and family that she's still alive and well, which will be done through a mini plot. I don't want to spoil the outcome though! So! Yeah.

While she's in the Grove still, Felicity's going to be in a bit of a daze at times- spacing out, looking at the stars and moon, just... a little out of it. I plan on her going uncaptured (she IS a ninja after all) and able to help whoever needs it, as well as running errands for people who might not feel safe going outside straying too far from the buildings. Otherwise... who knows!

Status: Alive, vaguely haunted, officially sixteen as of tomorrow.

On one hand, he is spending his first birthday without his family and is very bummed about it so expect him to be kind of a moody teenager until something fixes that. On the other, he came back from Zahliyaquest kind of winded by his own broken sense of what is and isn't fucked up! He sort of made the call to mercy kill some people and he's more fucked up over how not fucked up he was over that! Sorry Mizuki therapy is gonna be a doozy this week.

Seeking: This event will remind him a lot of one of the last hellscape he lived in so he is like OH YES HERE WE GO. THIS SHIT AGAIN but that means he won't be staying out of trouble, will probably be trying to help people, and may or may not get fucked up as a result.
